The NSW Status Resolution Section delivers targeted services to people seeking to resolve their immigration status while in the community or held detention and contributes to the integrity of Australia’s migration program by facilitating immigration outcomes for non-citizens, in a timely and lawful manner, while managing risk to the community. These non-citizens are often at the end of their immigration pathway and can fall into higher-risk categories with vulnerabilities or character concerns that need to be intensively managed.
About the Role:
As an APS4 Status Resolution Officers (SRO’s) you will play an important role in managing a large caseload of clients in the community, working through their immigration history to identify and resolve outstanding matters. You will be working with a variety of clients including unlawful non-citizens or visa over-stayers to regularise their status and reach an outcome for them, whether it be a visa grant, voluntary departure or removal from Australia.
The APS4 SRO role is positioned within the NSW Community Status Resolution team which is currently based in the Sydney CBD. You will join a small team within the bigger unit, reporting directly to a Team Leader.
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
The ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy to resolve enquiries.
The ability to undertake a logical and balanced decision-making process and provide justification for that decision within defined parameters.
Strong organisational and coordination skills to manage a large caseload, including the ability to prioritise tasks and work independently within a team.
Well-developed interpersonal skills to facilitate and promote positive interactions with clients, peers and stakeholders.
The ability to quickly gain an understanding of the department's community caseload and detention network including departmental systems.
